Lisa Eastin

Lisa EastinLisa Eastin is an Associate in our Lakewood office. She joined Buchanan & Stouffer in 2011. Her practice focuses on special needs planning, estate planning and elder law, with a special emphasis on working with families that include members with special needs.

Typically, these scenarios involve an adult or minor child, and either parents or other siblings planning for their long-term care. Often this involves issues such as creating trusts to protect Medicaid eligibility, setting aside protected funds for special needs, and putting strict rules in place governing management of trust assets and distributions. “Special needs planning” can encompass anything from physical, emotional or mental challenges to substance abuse problems, gambling addiction, protecting the vulnerable or caring for those with a demonstrated inability to manage finances. As the parent of a son living with mental illness, Lisa personally understands the challenges faced by many of her clients. She is particularly gifted at assisting and supporting her clients in managing the demands of these situations. She knows that a major key to reducing stress on parents and siblings is planning for the future.

Lisa started her career at the New York City office of Ernst & Young. She then practiced with a large New York City law firm where she focused her practice on tax, employee benefits, ERISA and executive compensation planning. In 1984 she returned to Denver where she practiced until her family moved to the Chicago area. She then worked at a national law firm located in Milwaukee, continuing her work in employee benefits, ERISA and executive compensation. In 1987, Lisa retired temporarily from the practice of law to focus on her family and raise her four sons. She returned to the practice of law in 2007. She is a frequent speaker on both special needs planning and estate planning.
